Happy October fellow Ramblers! Goodbye, September - Hello, Spooky Season filled with candy, autumn leaves, cozy sweaters, and of course, the classic pumpkin spice latte. Now, I’m not one of those people that will get a PSL every day because I think they can be a little too sweet and sickening if I drink too many. However, once in a while, especially on the colder days, I do enjoy drinking a piping hot PSL to warm myself. What I don’t enjoy, though, is the price tag on said PSL. A grande PSL at Starbucks is about $6.59 CAD ($4.95 USD). That’s a sh*t ton of money for one medium-sized latte! So, I took things into my own hands, bought some pumpkin puree, and started making my own PSLs. This recipe is for all my on-a-budget, vegan, lazyish, and busy pumpkin spice latte lovers.
Since I’m pretty lazy, I made this recipe so that you use the least amount of materials (aka less stuff to clean) possible. Just remember, this is a PSL we’re making (most likely in the morning before running out the door), not a 3-tiered cake. So, don’t worry about being super precise, sing a happy song, and just enjoy 10- 15 minutes of peaceful coffee making before the rest of the day begins.
Time: 10 - 15 minutes
Level: Super-Duper Easy
Servings: 1 16-oz PSL
Grab your coffee mug and a teaspoon. Grab your sugar or stevia and add however many teaspoons of it you want into the mug (I don’t like my PSL too sweet so I only put one teaspoon).
Then, add 1 teaspoon of pumpkin spice to the mug. You can usually find pumpkin spice in grocery stores, spice stores, or bulk stores. I found some at Bulk Barn. If you can’t find any, you can always make your own! Pumpkin spice is simply made of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves with a ratio of 1:¼:¼:⅛. For instance, 1 tablespoon cinnamon, ¼ tablespoon nutmeg, ¼ tablespoon ginger, and ⅛ tablespoon cloves.
Add 2-3 tablespoons of pumpkin puree. I added about 3 tablespoons so that the pumpkin taste was a little stronger. If you don’t feel like getting a tablespoon out, you can use the same teaspoon as before. There are 3 teaspoons in one tablespoon, so 3 tablespoons would be 9 teaspoons.
Stir the pumpkin puree, spice, and sugar until it’s all mixed together. Add your 2 oz of espresso or strong coffee if you don’t have an espresso machine.
Stir again. Now, heat 14 oz of almond milk. I usually use unsweetened almond milk, but you can use whatever you prefer. I’ve tried this recipe with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and it was delish too.
You can heat the milk in a glass, mug or bowl in the microwave. You could also heat the milk on the stovetop or steam it to make latte art! How you heat your milk is your choice.
Once your milk is heated, pour it into your mug in circular motions so that it mixes in.
Voila! Your quick, easy and homemade pumpkin spice latte is ready!
