I know a lot of folks are feeling pretty powerless to enact active, positive change right now amidst the COVID-19 era. Sometimes the world can seem pretty bleak, and it’s hard to see how you can make a difference (though really, staying home is one of the best things you can do to flatten the curve, so keep at it!).
There are still a lot of ways that you can be a part of the solution, even from your own couch. I’ve compiled a linked list of volunteer/donation options that you can take advantage of during quarantine in the Colorado area and nationally. Enjoy!
1.Volunteer Match- Volunteer Match has thousands of opportunities across the nation related to virtual and on-site volunteer opportunities to aid communities impacted by COVID-19. In Colorado alone, there are 90,000 virtual volunteer opportunities available.
2.Help Colorado Now Innovation Response Team – I mentioned this one in a previous blog, but they’re looking for corporate and software engineer volunteers to join their Innovation Response team. If you are a private sector company or individual who wants to partner with it, this is a great opportunity for you. They’re also providing childcare services for first responders.
3.'A Little Help' for Older Adults- A Little Help is an awesome local nonprofit that connects neighbors with older adults who might need a little extra help right now with things like prescription pick up, grocery shopping, or even social check-in’s via phone.
4.United Way Volunteering for the Homeless- They have virtual volunteering for all, but United Way is also in need of people who are healthy and showing no signs or symptoms of the virus can assist providers, or volunteer to help prepare meals, distribute supplies, and help keep shelter facilities clean and safe for their guest.
5.Mask Creation- Check out your local areas to see if your community hospital could use hand-sewn masks. If you’re pretty crafty, this might be a nice way to help out!
6.Can’t Volunteer? Consider Donating!- A lot of small businesses, laid-off employees, struggling families, healthcare workers, and more could really use the support. Even a few dollars helps! You can also donate supplies.
And even if you can’t donate, a friendly reminder that practicing social distancing and staying home as much as possible is already an amazing way to help combat this crisis! As always, stay well and stay home. J
