Ok, sorry, we’re rambling. I bet you’re wondering who we are, what we do, why you should care, and what in the world our name means….so we sat down to map it all out for you. Tune into our first podcast, Wednesday, November 7th, at 6 p.m. MT to learn more.
Until then—check out our Q&A to get to know Honey Butter Ramblings.
1. Why “HoneyButter Ramblings?”
Bailey: Anne and I did everything together, including breakfast. Scrambled eggs, chocolate milk, and a side of honey and buttered toast was always our go-towhile tuning into Say Yes to the Dress. Also, if you know me—I tend to ramble, a lot. Get me going on a topic of interest, and I’ll talk your ear off. Thank god Anne’s a good listener.
Anne: As Bailey said, we called it HoneyButter Ramblings because of our honey and butter toast. I might be a good listener, but I can also ramble, especially if it’s on a topic that I’m passionate about. During the brainstorming session for our name, we listed out several possible names from April Chatters to Simply Thriving. In the end, we decided on HoneyButter Ramblings because it felt more unique and personal to us. And it’s pretty catchy, don’t you think?
2. Why did you want to start a blog/podcast?
Bailey: I’m a communications professional in my day job, regularly handling social media, company blogs, and internal communication pieces. I wanted to keep my writing skills sharpened, and more importantly, I wanted to stay connected to my best friend. After having someone by your side since the age of 7, it can be hard when they move to a different country (cough cough come back Anne).
As a newly graduated college student, I also wanted to find something to occupy my time. I was heavily involved in college, and I want to do the same in the adult world. This blogcast is a great outlet to nurture that desire to be involved and stay connected in my friendship with Anne.
Anne: I’ve had experience writing a blog, and I really enjoy writing, when I have the time, so I figured starting this blog-cast would keep me motivated to write more often. I’ve also been wanting to start a podcast since Spring, but I hadn’t had time to act on it. I’m always on the lookout for creative projects, and what better project to start then a blog-cast with my best friend? I think this blog-cast will be a great way for us to stay connected and spend more time together.
3. Who will be writing what? What topics do you specialize in?
Bailey: I’m a huge outdoor enthusiast, everything from hiking and skiing to kayaking and biking, so I’ll be dabbling in adventure.
In college, I was a peer career advisor and president of a professional chapter for PR majors (shout out to PRSA). I also held 6 different corporate and agency internships, so as a young professional, I have extensive knowledge in the world of crafting resumes, navigating interviews, and scoring that first job/internship. Many of my topics will be around professional development, and if you need a resume review, feel free to DM me.
Finally, I have a lot of opinions on everything (asI said, I ramble), so I’ll also be writing in the tips and advice portion.
Anne: I’m currently a Master’s student on the Medical School track, so when it comes to professional development, I’ll be focusing more on graduate studies and how to advance in more scientific professions. I’m also a pretty artsy, crafty person and I love creating things with my hands. You can expect some baking/cooking recipes from me, DIYs and how-tos, and tips on unleashing your creativity. I’ll also post some advice on how to turn your crafting or hobbies into a business!
I love the thrill of being outdoors and going on an adventure, so be ready for some adventure-related posts. I love running, hiking, skiing, canoeing, you name it. If you tell me to go cliff- diving, I’ll do it (after double-checking that it’s safe, of course)!
Finally, when I’m really passionate about something, I like to talk about it. So, you’ll see some lifestyle-related posts and information on world events, mixed with a hint of opinion.
4. Fact Time: What are 5 fun facts about you that are completely unrelated?
Bailey: I’ve gone backpacking with llamas across the Colorado backcountry, I was homecoming queen, I was a premature baby (which is probably why I dislike being late to anything), I’ve been in a relationship since freshman year of high school, and I graduated college a year early.
Anne: I’m Vietnamese-French-American (and who knows, maybe Canadian too one day eh?), I did my undergraduate in 3 years, although I’ve never been in a relationship my cat Chester is definitely the love of my life, and I love eating and making pastries.
5. What’s the next topic? When are the podcasts?
Bailey: Next week’s topic is around professional development! We’ll be releasing two blogs a week and one podcast a week.
Anne: There will be two blog posts and a podcast episode on professional development next week. Podcast episodes will go live on Wednesday at 6 PM MT!
6. Where can I go to learn more?
Bailey: Check out our about page, or feel free to follow me on social on the contact page. Happy to connect!
Anne: You can always stay updated and learn more by following us on social media! Our personal socials are also listed so feel free to follow us. I’d love to connect with you all!
7. Favorite Quote and Why?
Bailey: “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” - Mary Oliver.
I’m a passionate person, I get easily excited and I have a fiery tenacity to achieve a lot with my life. I lead with my heart and the idea that if you work hard enough and love those around you and what you’re doing—than you’ve succeeded. I’m always looking for the next big goal, the next experience, the next piece of the scrapbook. I plan to do a lot with my one wild and precious life!
Anne: “ ‘What if I fall’… Oh, but my darling, what if you fly?” - Erin Hanson.
I have several favorite quotes, but this is one of the top ones and I feel like it relates to the blogcast more. There are so many uncertainties in life, and sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith. I know it’s hard to start things sometimes because the fear of failure may be holding you back. I’m a big believer that in the end, things work out. Even if you fail a couple times, if you keep putting the effort in, you will fly. You never know what the future holds so might as well make that leap, right?
Well, there you have it folks! Hopefully, this gives you a bit of background into our lives and the purpose of HoneyButter Ramblings. Tune into our first podcast, Wednesday, November 7th at 6 p.m. to learn more, and join us for next week’s topic on professional development.
